Ciara Dockery, Ph.D., is a licensed clinical psychologist with a private practice in the Gramercy Park area of New York City. Dr. Dockery received her B.A. from Harvard University and her Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Fordham University. She also holds an M.A. in journalism from New York University.
Although trained in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) and psychodynamic interventions, Dr. Dockery utilizes a flexible, integrative approach to therapy that is tailored to the needs of each individual. She also has an interest in the integration of mindfulness, meditation and spirituality in psychotherapy practice with the goal of increasing connectedness and meaning for her clients.
Outside of her practice, Dr. Dockery serves as the director of the NFL Life Line, a free and confidential 24/7 emotional wellness and suicide prevention hotline available to the entire National Football League community and administered by Vibrant Emotional Health. Throughout her career, Dr. Dockery’s main areas of focus have been in crisis intervention, suicide prevention, trauma-informed interventions, public outreach and large-scale mental health program development.
Dr. Dockery also currently serves as the chief clinical advisor for Gurls Talk, a mental health advocacy group founded by model and activist Adwoa Aboah. Through her collaboration with Adwoa, Dr. Dockery is working to reduce stigma and elevate the conversation around issues of mental health for girls - all with the ultimate goal of increasing access to care.
Early in her career at the New York State Office of Mental Health, Dr. Dockery served as the Statewide Coordinator on Project Liberty, the $132 million dollar FEMA-funded mental health outreach response to the events of 9/11. She also served as the first network development coordinator during the development and implementation of the SAMHSA-funded National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (1-800-273-TALK).
Dr. Dockery has trained in community mental health/inpatient/residential settings such as Kings County Hospital in central Brooklyn, the New York State Psychiatric Institute and Harvard’s McLean Hospital.
Dr. Dockery serves on the National Football League’s Mental Health Advisory Board, the Family Advisory board of the Harvard Football Player’s Health Study, the Concussion Legacy Foundation’s NYC Advisory Board, The Gurls Talk advisory board and the advisory board for the CDC-funded Mount Sinai Injury Control Research Center (ICRC).
